Anal & Pegging

Anal & Pegging

Book Pleasure & Intimacy
Chapter 9 of 11

(This guide builds on Expanded Solo Pleasure. If you skipped that one, go there first.)

Anal can be pleasurable for all kinds of bodies and all kinds of dynamics. What makes anal feel good is preparation, patience, and safety. Going slow enough that the body stops bracing and starts getting curious. Enough trust. Enough lube. Enough time for the body to give a real yes.

The gender dynamics piece

Don’t try to convince someone to do anal. It’s an icky thing to do. And also…if you’re pushy, manipulative, or trying to “convince” someone, you’re actively making their body feel less safe. The more pressure someone feels, the tighter their body becomes.

Safety = relaxation.
Relaxation = pleasure.

If they have a good experience, they’ll want to do it again. If it’s painful and rushed that door will shut.

The butt is a multi-use facility

Let’s normalize something: the butt is for poop, farts, and pleasure. Same neighborhood. So yes — sometimes there might be poop. That’s anatomy. If you encounter a little, it’s normal. Wipe. Move on. If the idea of mess makes you spiritually fragile, this might not be your sport — and that’s okay. There are so many other ways to play.

Also: anal is not an “always.” Some days you’re open for business. Some days you’re closed for the holidays. Boundaries. If you’re having stomach problems, it might not be your night. If things get messy mid-play: pause, bathroom, reset if you want.

Anal douches can be used occasionally, but no more than three times a week — they can mess with your flora (more on that below). Often, pooping a few hours beforehand is enough. If you want anal… but wait only for moments when you’ve had a full douche… you’ll be leaving a lot of potentially great sex on the table. Just sayin’.

Some things can help keep it cleaner: shower together beforehand. Use condoms and lots of lube — for whatever reason, condoms tend to come out cleaner. And pick positions that honor gravity. As in least mess = getting fucked ass in the air. Most mess = receiver bouncing on top. Positions where your stomach is parallel to gravity are about as clean as ones where your stomach is anti-gravity

The porn lies

Porn edits out the 30 minutes of douching, the strategic meal choices, the buckets of lube, the warm-up, the awkward pause, the “wait, hold on,” the 15 minutes of slow dilation, and the occasional mess. So if your version of anal is from porn… let that all go. The biggest mistake people make is going too fast with not enough lube. When we say slow, we mean slooooooooooooooooooow.

SLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW

The golden rules

  1. USE LUBE.
Way more than you think. Rivers. Waterfalls at flood stage. A slip-n-slide. Water-based lube works well but dries out fast. Silicone lube tends to last longer and is often a better practical choice for extended anal play. For silicone toys, use water-based lube. Don’t use numbing lubes for anal — pain signals are important. Check the lube section for all the details.
  2. Go at the pace of comfort.
There’s no rush. Take the time to prep the butt. Maybe with your tongue, then one finger, then maybe a toy, then slooowly with a penis or strap-on. Don’t try anal for the first time while you’re drunk or intoxicated… you need to be deeply tuned in.
  3. Always use toys with a flared base.
The anus has a suction reflex. It will take your toy on an adventure. And you will not simply “poop it out.” You will probably go to the hospital. The ER staff has seen enough. Don’t be their Tuesday.
  4. Never go from anus to vagina.
Ever. That’s a bacterial transfer situation no one needs: the anus hosts bacteria that are perfectly normal there, but can cause real problems in the vagina. If you’re switching: new condom. Wash thoroughly. Reset. Really.
  5. Don’t share anal toys between partners without a condom + wash.
  6. If it hurts, stop.
There’s so much talk out there about anal being painful, that most people don’t realize it doesn’t have to be. Stretchy-intense? Yes. Sharp/burning? No. Anal doesn’t need to feel like punishment unless that’s what you’re after. Adjust. Go slower. Add lube. Go smaller. Or call it.

How to start (with a partner)

We’re going slow. You’re in control. If it hurts, we stop. If there’s poop, it’s okay. If today isn’t the day, we try another time. No pressure.

Usually best positions at the beginning:

  • Spooning
  • Receiver on top (cowgirl) — receiver has full control, can stimulate their clitoris.

Doggy style? Not ideal at first. The penetrator has too much control.

Often it’s best for the person being penetrated to guide the penis / strap-on in themselves, and to guide the pace and depth of any thrusting. And again: Horniness relaxes the anus. Exhale as you insert. Exhale as you remove. It might take way longer than you think. That’s fine. There’s no prize for speed.

Pegging is anal penetration of a man with a strap-on. Most men who enjoy it enjoy it because they have a prostate. Stimulate it well and the body responds. And beyond the nerve endings there’s something else. Being penetrated can be an incredible experience for a man — to feel the vulnerability, the tenderness, the surrender. To understand what it’s like to open instead of thrust. To need patience. To need aftercare.

And… if you want to be a great dom, it helps to know what submission feels like in your own body at least once or twice in your life. Pegging doesn’t have to be the path to that — but it’s a very effective one.

Same rules as all anal:
+ Slow warm-up
+ Serious lube
+ Receiver controls depth and pace
+ Enthusiastic consent

And for a little more pressure against the prostate, put a pillow under the receiver’s butt to shift the angles.

First, you don’t have to douche. Lots of people have great anal sex without ever douching. Totally up to you. Some people prefer it for peace of mind. Some don’t bother. Some swear they just eat tons of fiber and are always squeaky clean as a result. All are normal. Everyone’s different.

This guide is for those who choose to douche… but it’s not trying to suggest that you should.

Butt diet
If you want anal to be low-drama, your real prep starts days before — not in the shower. Your digestion determines how easy everything else is.

Fiber is your friend
A steady, moderate amount of fiber makes stool more formed and predictable. That means cleaner exits and less chaos later. Think: vegetables, whole grains, beans, chia / flax. Supplementing with psyllium husk can be great if you don’t get a lot of dietary fiber. Some of the psyllium husk on the market has high levels of lead, so choose from a reputable brand that has third-party testing.

Fiber without water is just… regret. Drink enough that your bowel movements are easy, not strained. If you’ve had a normal bowel movement and don’t feel like you need to go again, you’re usually fine. Most people don’t need extreme prep if their digestion is steady.

What not to do
+ Don’t starve yourself before anal.
+ Don’t do extreme “cleanse” diets.
+ Don’t suddenly triple your fiber the day of or really do anything wild you’re not used to (take a bunch of laxatives in a panic).

Regular digestion > last-minute panic. If your gut is unpredictable all the time — constipation, diarrhea, pain — that’s not a sex problem. That’s a health conversation worth having with a professional. A calm gut makes everything else easier.

Anal douching: two paths

Fast = rectum rinse (most people, most of the time)
Deep clean = deeper prep (for going wild)

Path 1: Fast

When: regular anal sex, no more than 3x per week.
Goal: clean the rectum just enough

What you use
A silicone douching bulb or a Fleet-style bottle. If using a Fleet saline bottle, make sure you empty the saline laxative, rinse thoroughly, and refill with water.

Water + lube
Water: lukewarm (body temp-ish). Test the temp with your finger or on the inside of your wrist. Only use water you’d drink.
Lube: anus + nozzle tip + finger. (Rectal tissue is delicate. Don’t raw-dog the nozzle.)

Safety
Stop if you feel sharp pain, burning, dizziness, or see significant bleeding. Douching can irritate the lining and slightly increase STI risk — use protection and give your butt a break after.

The steps (over the toilet or in the shower)
1. Massage around the anus. Wait for the sphincter to relax.
2. Fill the bulb with water. It’s helpful to have a cup of water to fill from.
3. Hold the bulb nozzle up and eject all the air until you get to just water. No need to push air up your bum.
4. Insert just the tip past the sphincter (about one-to-two inches).
5. Gently squeeze in water. Gently.
6. Remove the tip and hold the water about 30 seconds.
7. Release.
8. Repeat until water runs clear.

Important: don’t let the bulb re-inflate while it’s still inside you. It can create suction that feels pinchy and can pull dirty water back into the bulb… ouch.

How many rounds?

Most people are done in 4 – 9. If you keep getting water that’s not clear, no matter how many FAST rounds you do, you probably sent water past the rectum. At that point you have two options:

1. Commit to a longer, deeper clean.
2. Pivot the plan (oral, hands, toys elsewhere, another night).

Timing
Give yourself 1 – 2 hours before sex so any leftover water can fully exit. (Nobody wants a surprise squirt.)

Path 2: Deep clean

When: longer sessions, bigger toys, fisting, anything where you want higher confidence.

Goal: deeper clearing knowing it takes longer and can irritate tissue. This path is more effort and more disruption. Do it when it feels worth it, not because you think you “should.”

The key difference
FAST tries not to push water past the rectum.
DC accepts that water may go higher and you’ll need time + repeat cycles to fully clear it.

What to expect
More refills.
More waiting.
More movement to release trapped water.
More chance of irritation if you overdo it.

Signs you’re likely done:
Water comes out clear several rounds in a row.
You feel that specific “empty” feeling (you learn it over time).
No strong odor coming out with the water.

Normal things that can look scary but aren’t:
A little mucus (slick, snotty-looking). Rectums make mucus. It’s not poop.

Getting trapped water out (the non-weird version)
If water feels stuck:
Walk around.
Squat.
Sit on the toilet a few extra minutes.
Gentle hip circles / move your body.
A warm shower can help you relax.

How often?
Definitely not daily. Probably not more than 1x a week. Overdouching can irritate tissue and mess with the good bacteria that live there.

Clean your equipment
Soap + warm water. Hydrogen peroxide can be great too. Rinse well. Air dry fully in a ventilated spot (drawers = mold). Check the product’s cleaning instructions — some can be boiled, some can’t.

Bring a flared base .

Bottom line

Anal sex isn’t mandatory. It is not edgy currency. It’s not proof of anything. It’s just another way bodies can experience pleasure. But if you’re going to enter the back door? Bring lube. Bring patience. Bring maturity.

And for the love of E.R nurses everywhere — bring a flared base.

TL; DR

Anal is optional. Wanted only. Never pressured.

Slow is the whole thing. Anal doesn’t reward rushing.

Laughable amounts of lube. Then add more.

Preparation, trust, and communication are essential.

The receiver sets the pace.

If it hurts sharply, stop.

A little mess is normal. Porn lied.
